Much more than how one looks on the outside, true beauty is found in conquering challenges, showing kindness, and spreading contagious laughter. Beautiful girls are empowered, smart, and strong!
I know that a lot of the books I review have boys as the protagonists, but I think there have been just as many strong girl protagonists on this blog. The first three books I reviewed have strong females as the main characters. If you don’t remember that far back, there is Melody, who had cerebral palsy, in Out of my Mind. There is Tamaya, who stayed calm in a terrifying situation in Fuzzy Mud. And finally, there is Emily, who loves reading and solved the clues to win a valuable prize in Book Scavenger.
I believe this is a good book for young girls because it’s not pink and girly like most children’s books, and it doesn’t try too hard to make a point about being a girl. There have been a lot of books lately about empowering women who grew up to be someone amazing. I’m not saying those books aren’t important; it’s just that they are being overdone.
I don’t remember ever dressing up as a princess as a little kid. I didn’t even wear dresses because they felt weird. I mostly dressed up in a ridiculous superhero outfit and ran around the house. The closest I came to dressing up in anything ‘girly’ was when I was Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls for Halloween (a neighbor saw the big red bow and thought I was a lobster. I still laugh about that to this day).
