I was pleasantly surprised by this story. I like how the orange carrots pop out against the black and white illustrations that make the story feel like an old horror film.
What makes this story unique is that it’s an actually scary story for young readers. This isn’t one of those Halloween-based picture books that features mummies, skeletons, or ghosts. Just because a story has iconic monsters doesn’t really make it scary. This story, on the other hand, has all the elements a scary story needs: spooky atmosphere, suspense, and a twist.
