Magic Ramen: The Story of Momofuku Ando by Andrea Wang

WARNING: THIS STORY WILL MAKE YOU CRAVE RAMEN SOUP

Amid the rubble of Japan after World War II, Momofuku Ando encountered people lined up in the bitter cold waiting for the smallest bit of food.

The world is peaceful only when everyone has enough to eat, he thought. Haunted by this memory, Ando worked in a little shed in his backyard, experimenting and trying to create a new kind of noodle soup that was quick to make, nutritious, and tasty in order to feed the hungry.

Slurp up the true story behind one of the world’s most popular foods!

Like many things in life, ramen noodle soup is one of those things you don’t really think about and take for granted.

I was impressed with all the different ingredients and methods Momofuku Ando experimented with before creating the perfect recipe.

You’ll notice in the illustrations that people are using chopsticks to eat the noodles, which I think is funny because that’s how I eat them. My mom thinks it’s weird that I only eat the noodles and not the soup.

If it wasn’t for Momofuku’s invention, college students would be without their main source of food.
